About Us
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world: indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.
These - the words of visionary anthropologist Margaret Mead - express with perfect clarity the philosophy of The Grateful Heart Foundation. To kindly offer others even a small measure of happiness, dignity and care - this, we believe, is the essence of humanity, the cornerstone of change, and the surest way to fill our own hearts with gratitude.
I attended Jack Canfield’s ‘Breakthrough to Success’ and the program rekindled a long-held desire to leave a legacy to those less fortunate than me. I pushed aside limiting beliefs and found the confidence to put the plan into action immediately.
The Grateful Heart Foundation was born.
Our aim is to reach $3,350,000 in endowment funds, the interest of which will be granted annually to two worthy causes: the care of Canada’s elderly and the protection of animals.
In 99 years, the projected cumulative grants to charities is expected to be $1,156,441.61* (*Source: The Calgary Foundation 2024)
Our Philosophy
Our objective is to contribute to humankind and ‘animal kind’ through the Foundation.
To have the greatest possible impact on recipients, all contributions will go to hands-on, grassroots care at an annual administration cost of just 1.25%.
A Helping Hand for Humankind
I elected this cause to honor my dear grandparents, Margaret and Cyril Doleman, who have influenced so much of who I am today. As children of the Great Depression, they valued community, nature and savored life’s simple pleasures.
As the years advanced, our roles reversed, with me caring for, and advocating for them. In their honor, I would like to support care for the elderly to ensure their later years are enriched, joy-filled and healthy. This couldn’t be more timely as they need care in unprecedented numbers.
I am overjoyed that The Grateful Heart Foundation was created while both Margaret and Cyril were still alive. I am committed to seeing it succeed as a tribute to two of the most amazing people I’ve known.
Care for Our Feathered, Four-Legged and Scaly Neighbors
Given our broad dominion over animals (both domestic and wild) and the impact we have on their lives, I feel strongly that humans have an obligation to provide them with care and protection. We therefore support registered charities focused on animal welfare.
A Vision Worth Supporting
So passionate is my belief in the importance of supporting humankind and our animal friends. I have bequeathed the majority of my estate, however large or small.
